Just Go Get a Job, Now!

ricardog started this conversation

When people start looking for work. They are taught that you have to do a career or go down a path that will lead you somewhere. We are taught to go to school and be someone in life. We are taught that you must know what you want to be before you start going to school. Sometime we come from a family that has paths already drawn for us. But when you need a job; you must go and get one because you need a job.

That is something that was is not taught. That when times are tough and we need to keep lights on or food on the table. We have to get a job. Lots of times, I’ve seen people who don’t want to wait tables or clean floors or wait on people, but you know what. When you don’t have a chose at the time, you must get a job and get the basic done before you go any further in life. One thing I’ve learned that those jobs teach you the best thing in life and that is to appreciate the big things that come your way.

When you have to have food on the table a job will do that for you. When you have to have the lights on, a job will do that for you. If you have to have your car up and running a job will do that for you.

When life throws you in a loop and you start losing yourself, your possessions, your life. You need to get a job. It does not matter what type of job but you just need to get one.  Lot’s of times people want that career path and they will refuse to get a job until they get the career path going. But sometimes, because of what happens in life, you have to take a side trip in life before you get back on the road to life. Sometimes you have to slow down and keep right before you can go on the fast lane of life. Sometimes you have to make a pit stop on the side of the road before you can get back on the road again to travel the road that you are suppose to go on.

We all have a career path that is going to get us somewhere in life. Some of us have a dream of being a doctor, lawyers, teachers and so many other career areas. But look, when it comes to keeping the rent money going and lights on. You have to do what you are supposed to do in life. Sometimes that means that you just have to get a job.

I know that times are tough and lots of time we are told that there are no jobs. But what people are really trying to say is, there is no job that leads into the career path that you want to go into. But if there is no job there, then why is hundreds of adults getting jobs daily, that because those people are just getting jobs.

Let me tell you a story about myself. When I was struggling and I needed money to eat. I got a job working at night cleaning buildings. It was not a job that was in my career path but I needed to eat. I had to take it because of my needs. So I got the job and it help me put food on the table. I did that for 6 months until I paid bills off and then I quit that job. The job was there to help me in my times of need. I knew it wasn’t going to make my career better when I took the job. I knew it was not something that I would do normally but I had to do something that was going to help me in the time of needs. I had to do something that was going to be able to give me money, so that I can put food on the table. I thought to myself, it’s just a job that is going to help at the time. It was a job that I knew would help me get things together. Yes I would 12 hours day and I was tired everyday. But I had to do something. I couldn’t give up on myself. I knew this was the right thing to do at the time. I had to do something.

Look, right now you are looking to survive. You are looking for food, pay rent, get gas money and you can’t spend time looking for a good career path job. You need to take a job that is going to do that for you. That is going to be able to get the basic in your life going and stable. If you are unemployed, work at a fast food service or grocery store or clean buildings at night. Get a job, now. There are hundreds of jobs in all shapes and sizes out there. Get the job and keep the lights on, pay the rent, put food on the table. Just get a job. Let that job temporarily help keep you a float. If you are swallowed in debt or you are starting to fall behind. You need to get a job, full time and a part time. Keep in mind that it’s only temporary.

If you have kids and they need things. Go get a job. If food is needed for dinner tonight, go get a job. If you have to pay rent, go get a job. Just get a job. You can do it. I know it’s frustrating and you don’t want that. But you must understand that keeping and getting a job will help you with the basics, once the basics are out of the way. Then you can start spending time looking for that good career for yourself. I know you can smile and work hard to get want you want out of life.

Here is a quick lesson about American jobs that will help you understand what is going on. Different types of levels divide the jobs; you have starter jobs, career path jobs and wealth building job. So in order to see all sides of the American jobs, how are you going to enjoy the real job that you going to get in the future. How are you going to accept the real job that you need to get or something that is going to work with your career path but if you don’t do one job, how are you going to do the other jobs. If you don’t work from one type of job, how are you going to appreciate the other jobs?

We American spend so much time teaching kids, other adults and young adults that you must have a path in order for you to have a job. But we keep teaching the wrong lesson. We are teaching and sending out the wrong message and we’ve been doing this for years.  The lesson should be, you must first get a job to survive, then a job to buy, then a job for success. Exercise this and you will never go wrong.

I know life can through a wrench as you cruise a long. But sometime you need to change gears. But remember and remember on thing. You must survive and learn and get your basic done and once you get that going. Everything will fall together.

We are all human and things happen but sometime you have to take two steps back to come forward. You can do it, just go get a job.

I would love to but I said previously, I'm not losing my unemployment to earn less. That's not logical, unless it's off the books. Which most times, cleaning companies that pay well require you to fill out tax info.

As far as going places to look, I have gone everywhere, but nothing is happening. As for resources, I know them all and have used and abused.. I have worked since the age of 9, so I am entitled.

Just have to wait and see.

Thanks anyway.

Hey, if you did it once. You can do it again....

Cleaning toilet is a job. I did it for 2 yeas and it help get me where I'm at now. So don't throw in the towel.

Remember that there are many resources for jobs. One thing I tell people, is look at a business and call them. See if they have an opening. Go to career builders, monster, yahoo jobs, Employment center, newspaper, or just call the company and see if they have an opening.

Use everything you know and keep go forward.... You can do it....

Keep ya head up honey....I worked in the Bronx Late Night in a warehouse near a place where prostitutes hung out. My fear was thinking I was going to get kidnapped and raped. All I thought about was my son.

I would take a job cleaning toilets right now. But minimum wage sucks in NY and I will lose my unemployment if I do so. That right now is barely doing anything for me as well. I know I will land a job this month as the college crowd is returning to school, but I spent my severance to pay for my rent in advance for the summer..RENT FIRST..but that is done and over with in September.

In the meantime, I'm trying to get some freelancing going. But let's see what happens. But I agree with you totally. I worked 2 jobs while I was in school and lived in a shelter with my son.

You keep pushing forward. I remember the days, that I had to get up at 3:00 a.m., just to make it to work at 8:00 a.m. but I did not give up. I believed that things were going to change and I knew it would. If only I keep going forward.

Even tho, times are tough and you feel like your world is falling apart. It's a way of you being prepared for something bigger. I know you want to give up, but you must keep looling forward. It will change.

Keep up the good work and keep looking forward. You can do it.

great advice that i've also given others, in my case fast food says my extensive background in the insurance claims field causes them to reject my application as they are looking for career-minded individuals, I swallowed my pride and became a security guard, then when my car quit for good, then got rid of me for not getting all over town on time by bus, they'd place me in different cities nearby often with no bus service and limited taxi and no one to ask to drive me to and from work even at the work site. I then took a closer job that had a end shift time of midnite twice per week with no bus service at that late an hour, and no one (ast least they said) was going my way, I ended up walking all the way home from midnite to 3am alone in the dark in an area with a high crime rate. I also cleaned motel/hotel rooms until one of the ladies framed me saying I stole things out of a room yet the boss believed me, then someone said I took a co-worker's expensive curling appliance from the ladies room, I didn't even know what they were talking about, but since I didnt mind keeping things left behind in the rooms like fruit, pop, snacks after they checkout (which is also allowed) they decided I must've taken the curling device too. I didn't and when I ran into one of the girls they said when I left the device suddenly turned up out of nowhere. I had been gone over a week by then.  Now with no car and Merry Maids not liking my extensive background either they don't even hire this lady to sweep floors or something.  I don't know what I'm going to do. ..Keep walking til 3am and go back to that position til finally i'm raped or killed? What's someone like me to do?
